In the mining area where the collapse columns were well developed, the coal seams were seriously damaged frequently, which brought many difficulties to the coal mine production. Especially when the collapse column was water abundant in the mining area under pressure, it could also bring serious consequences to the mine production, which caused huge losses to the coal enterprises. In the study area of Pingding County, Shanxi Province, the maximum buried depth of 200 m under Ordovician limestone top boundary was about 820 m, and more than 160 collapse columns were developed. In order to evaluate the water abundance of the collapse columns developed in the mining area, the transient electromagnetic method was used to detect. This paper studied the selection of acquisition parameters, the steps of data processing and the method of data interpretation. The water abundant collapse columns in the area were evaluated. The results were in accordance with the geological law and the study provided geological basis for the safe production of the mine.
